Each year, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, some of the most respected automotive journalists choose the best new car of the year. For 2020, the all-new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was named the North American Car of the Year.
“The 2020 Corvette represents a new era for the iconic brand,” said Lauren Fix, North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year president. “The excitement from consumers has been overwhelming. From a journalist’s perspective, this is one of the best-built GM products that exemplifies what it means to be the North American Car of the Year.”
This is the third time the Corvette has won this award. It previously won in 1998 for the fifth-generation model and again in 2014 for the seventh-generation model.
With its all-new design, the eighth-generation Corvette is unlike any other Corvette model. It has an innovative mid-engine design to give it superior performance and handling. It also boasts a refined, premium cabin with a focus on the driver.
The 2020 Corvette is powered by an all-new LT2 V8 engine rated at 490 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. With the available performance exhaust system, output increases to 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. With this output, Chevrolet says the Corvette will have a top speed of 194 mph.
